Trixie's mother delivered her in the middle of a pasture alone. When Trixie was born she was selenium deficient, had white muscle disease and when found she could not stand. They were able to give her a drug called bose which helped support her but stunted her growth.
Trixie continued to grow up on the other farm but unfortunately she got her leg caught in a plywood fence run. Her original owners were not sure how long she had been stuck but when she was finally found she could not put any weight on her front leg. At the veterinarian office it was determined that the leg was dead and needed to be amputated. The owners decided they were going to euthanize Trixie.
BUT through the Veterinarian we heard about her story and they told the farmer that there was someone who would be willing to do the amputation and give her a chance. The farmer reluctantly agreed and so she came to us as a baby and had the amputation. Trixie shows no signs of having an issues. She holds her own against all the other does and loves to yell when she thinks its time to eat.
Trixie must have been an easy target though because when a buck broke through to the doe's side she was the only one bred. So Trixie ended up pregnant. (Oops) and along came Dixie 5 month's later. She had an easy delivery and both mom and baby are healthy, living their best life with the crew at Happy Goats Farm.
Peg's story coming soon!
